The Methods of Moments in the Analysis of Images and Objects
The methods of moments have been used to analyze 2D and 3D images. They have been applied to various themes, e.g. biomedical, industrial inspection, airports security inspection, video indexing and retrieval, etc. Many types of moment forms have been proposed, for example; geometric moments, Zernike moments, Legendre moments, pseudo Zernike moments, Chebyshev moments, etc. For each type of image/object moments, there are few computational methods to attain efficient computation. Moreover, several methods can be used to derive invariants from moments and then use these invariant features in image recognition applications. Quite a few methods have also been introduced to reduce the digitization error, the numerical computation error, and thus producing accurate moments.
The purpose of this forum is to bring scientists who are interested and currently working on moments together to discuss the latest trends in the field. The themes of the session include, but not limited to:
- Novel Image Moments models
- Efficient computation
- Numerical stability
- Different applications
- The future prospects of moments (within the vision of other challenging methods)
Submission Procedure
Authors are invited to submit full papers through the ICIAR 2013 submission system by January 18, 2013 January 31, 2013, selecting the special session (The Methods of Moments) in their submission. The conference proceedings will be published in the Springer Lecture Notes in Computer Science series (Springer LNCS). All submitted papers will be reviewed by at least two independent reviewers.
