Panel: Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning as Transformative Agents in the Industrial World

The goal of this panel session is to discuss the fast-forward developments of artificial intelligence and machine learning in the academia and industry and their impact on the nowadays world. More specifically, this panel session aims at discussing the translation of these advances into the different computer vision fields (Computer-aided Diagnosis in Medicine and Biology, Autonomous Vehicles, Driving Experience, Human Behavior, among many others). The development of these technologies at larger and smaller scale will also be explored. Lastly, in this panel, we aim at promoting and enhancing the already existing synergy between academia and industry. This session follows up the fruitful discussion around a similar topic held in the previous ICIAR 2017 edition ("The deep Learning revolution: How it could Transform the business World")

Composition of the Panel

  • Five panelists from the Industry and Academia
  • Moderator: a Science & Technology journalist

Organization of the Panel

This panel will be composed by 5 presentations of 5-10 minutes, followed by a 20 minutes round-table discussion.

  1. Short presentations by industry (5 x 5-10min): The members of the panel will be invited to give a short talk presenting some methodology, technology, product or specific application based on Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning techniques. The focus of this talk will be on the experience with the development of these techniques and on the description of the interaction between artificial intelligence and their product.
  2. Round-table discussion (20min): "Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning as Transformative Agents in the Industrial World" will be the motto of this round-table discussion. Besides, the positive and the concerning aspects of these technologies in the present and the future will also be discussed. Additionally, external moderator will have the role of introducing the perspective of the general public about artificial intelligence and machine learning into the discussion.

Discussion can then be extended to the coffee-break and space will be made available for demonstration purposes upon request.
