• September 23, 2004: Some information has been posted to assist you during your attendance of the conference. Check the General Information page for information about the venue, information desk, email access at the confernece, welcome reception and banquet, and conference sessions.
• September 21, 2004: Bus transportation information has been posted. Check the bus transportation page for details on available buses and schedules.
• September 10, 2004: Arrival information has been posted. Information including maps, conference venue, how to get to Porto, and on-site registration is available.
• July 21, 2004: The conference program has been posted: Overview and Details pages are available. The program details page lists all accepted papers, their presentation type (oral or poster), and session.
• June 14, 2004: Camera-ready instructions for authors have been sent out. An online copy of the instructions is available here. Please do not forgot to register by June 22, 2004, to have your paper included in the proceedings.
• June 10, 2004: Registration information has been posted. Authors of accepted papers should register by June 22, 2004, to have their paper included in the conference proceedings. Hotel and conference venue information has been posted as well. Instructions on submitting the camera-ready version of accepted papers will be posted soon.
• June 7, 2004: Decision notices have been sent out to authors. Detailed instructions on submitting the camera-ready version of accepted papers, as well as detailed registration information, will be posted on the web site later this week.
• May 31, 2004: Notification of acceptance has been delayed until June 7, 2004.
• April 28, 2004: Paper submission has been closed. Notification of acceptance for submitted papers will be sent out June 1, 2004. Please stay tuned for updates on registration information. Thank you for all who contributed to the conference.

ICIAR – International Conference on Image Analysis and Recognition aims to bring together researchers in the fields of Image Processing, Analysis, and Recognition. It will be organized annually, alternating between Europe and North America. In 2004, the conference is held in Porto, Portugal. The second edition, ICIAR – 2005 will take place in Toronto, Canada.

The conference is a result of discussion between researchers in Portugal and Canada to encourage collaboration and exchange between the two Countries with participation of experts and researchers from other Countries.

The conference will address recent advances in both methodological issues and different application areas. The scientific program will include invited speakers and fully refereed contributions that will be published in the conference proceedings.

The conference aims to provide a forum for presentation and discussion of the recent methodological advances in Image Processing, Analysis and Recognition. Special sessions will be also organized for addressing promising applications in various fields. The topics of the conference include, but are not limited to:
